A group of us plan to submit a proposal to the art shanty project. Art shanty project's mission is that it is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which the relatively unregulated public space of the frozen lake can be used as a new and challenging artistic environment to expand notions of what art can be. The project proves a unique opportunity for artists to interact with their audience, and vice versa, in an un-intimidating, non-gallery like environment. Artists can choose to work in a way that directly engages the audience. This project runs for five weeks on Medicine Lake in Plymouth, Minnesota. Submissions are due by December 1st, 2008, so it is coming up quickly, however, I would encourage people to submit proposals for some sort of art shanty. It sounds like it is a popular and fun alternative exhibition.

brrrrrrrrr.
This is a very interesting way to utilize a space that is generally reserved for fisherman and other sorts of outdoor recreation. I think setting up a temporary space like this sets up an interesting dialogue in itself. Not to mention its bringing art to a space seldom if ever associated with art. I'd be really interested to see what kind of crowd this project will bring in. Just like your latest post, it's exposing the public to more contemporary art. What all did you guys submit in your proposal?
Unfortunately we ran into some problems and didn't get the proposal in on time.
